ChatGPT maker OpenAI tells Chinese customers it will block API access in that country. This is reported by a Chinese newspaper. ChatGPT has never been available in the country, but companies can use GPT models via the API.
Chinese customers have been told that API access will no longer be available in two weeks, Securities Times reports . This emerged in an email OpenAI sent to customers based in China. Chinese companies, meanwhile, are offering similar alternatives.
OpenAI has never officially released its services in China, but that hasn't stopped Chinese companies from accessing the company's GPT models via the API. It is unknown exactly how many customers are involved. OpenAI has not provided any public explanation.
