IFixit gives Surface Copilot+ devices 8 out of 10 points for repairability

IFixit gives the Microsoft Surface Pro 11 and Surface Laptop 7 a score of 8 out of 10 for repairability. Users can easily replace most parts on both the tablet and laptop, according to iFixit's Shahram Mokhtari.

Parts on both devices are marked with QR codes that take users directly to Microsoft's official service guides. Microsoft made this available immediately after the release of the devices. In addition, symbols indicate which tools users need to loosen a specific part. Some parts also indicate how many screws need to be loosened. Microsoft calls these symbols 'signposting'.

Tasks such as removing the battery or SSD are very easy according to Mokhtari. This is the case with both the tablet and the laptop. With the laptop, apart from the bottom feet and the back cover, no parts need to be loosened to remove the battery. What is more difficult is removing the memory. It is soldered to the motherboard.

With the tablet, removing the SSD is particularly easy. This can be done via a rear cover without disassembling the tablet. Replacing other components is a bit more complex than with the laptop, but according to Mokhtari it is still easier than with most other tablets. According to Mokhtari, loosening the glue that holds the screen in place can be more difficult than with a laptop.

Microsoft received the lowest possible score of 0 for the Surface Laptop in 2017. According to iFixit, this laptop could not be opened without causing major damage. Even if users did manage to do that, there was hardly anything inside to replace or repair.
