The measure, which announced by the Russian Foreign Ministry, is seen as a reaction to the EU's previous decision to “stop broadcasting” of Russian media.
The EU's decision, which was announced on May 17, included media outlets Ria Novosti, Voice of Europe, Izvestija and Rossijskaja Gazeta.
It is not the first time Russian authorities have taken this type of action. Already in 2022, the website of the British BBC was blocked, among other things, after Russian media such as RT and Sputnik were blocked by the EU.
The Russian response includes news sites from 25 countries such as Spanish El Pais, German Der Spiegel and French Le Monde . They are blocked with immediate effect in Russia.
