Rumor: AMD Testing Strix Halo Laptop APU With 128GB RAM

AMD is testing a Strix Halo processor with 128GB of RAM. This can be deduced from shipping data published by NBD Data. The manufacturer has not yet confirmed that these alleged powerful laptop APUs are coming. They are expected early next year.

The NBD Data website refers to Maple Rev. B and FP11. These are the test platform and the socket respectively that are linked to Strix Halo. It is the first time that 128GB RAM is mentioned. So far it was 32 or 64GB. The product line is rumored to use Lpddr5x with a 256bit memory bus. This means that the memory chips will probably be soldered to the motherboard.

The rumor mill surrounding Strix Halo has been running for some time. This laptop series reportedly consists of two chiplets with eight Zen 5 cores each, followed by a soc chiplet with an improved Ryzen AI engine and an integrated RDNA 3 GPU. The latter would contain a maximum of forty compute units and its performance should come close to a mobile Nvidia RTX 4070.
