Ubisoft is releasing a remaster of Beyond Good & Evil on June 25. The third-person action game will feature polished graphics, several new modes, and an additional mission that should tie into the upcoming sequel.
The Anniversary Edition is released in honor of the 20th anniversary of Beyond Good & Evil and will be released for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series S|X, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Amazon Luna and PC. The game has updated graphics and can be played at a maximum resolution of 4K at 60fps. Ubisoft also promises improvements to audio quality and controls. In addition, some quality-of-life improvements have been added. For example, there is now an autosave function and cutscenes can be skipped.
The game also includes some new content. Players can view concept art and watch 'never-before-seen' videos. A speedrun mode has also been added. Finally, the game gets a new mission. It concerns a 'treasure hunt' in which players 'discover more about the past of Jade', the main character of the game. According to the developer, this mission reveals more 'about the narrative link with Beyond Good & Evil 2, demonstrating Ubisoft's continued commitment to the franchise.
Beyond Good & Evil 2 was announced in 2008, but it is still unclear when the game will be released. If the game were actually released, it would have taken more time between the release of the game and the announcement than with the current record holder Duke Nukem Forever. That game was in development for 14 years.
