Windows 11 may only support Wi-Fi 7 after 24H2 update

Windows 11 users may need to install version 24H2 before they can get started with Wi-Fi 7. The update will be officially released later this year. It is not clear whether the standard will later be supported by older Windows 11 versions.

Microsoft writes in a support article that users must have Windows 11 in addition to a compatible router and network adapter to be able to use Wi-Fi 7 to use. The developer then indicates in a footnote that 'Wi-Fi 7 is available from Windows 11, version 24H2'. The same page also contains a Windows 10 tab, which contains no references to Wi-Fi 7.

The company further describes the latest features that Wi-Fi 7 brings. For example, the bandwidth of the 6GHz band has been doubled to 320MHz and multi-link operation can bundle all frequency bands for faster data transfer. The 4096QAM modulation should be twenty percent faster than its predecessor, and enable better quality for videos and streams.

Update, 8:10 PM – As stated in this forum post It has been demonstrated that Wi-Fi 7 can already be enabled in Windows 11. However, it is not yet possible to use features such as MLO. This functionality may be added to version 24H2.
