Google appears to have revoked the subscriptions of multiple YouTube Premium subscribers who purchased them via a VPN, as subscription prices are lower in some regions.
In an unofficial YouTube subreddit, multiple users say their subscriptions have been revoked. One of the users shares a screenshot of an email stating that his Premium subscription is being canceled. He says that he did not cancel the subscription himself.
Another user responds that he has contacted YouTube customer service about his automatically canceled subscription. The customer service representative confirms that the subscription was canceled because he 'moved to a different region'. The user is based in the UK, but was using a Ukrainian IP address. “The service is cancelled until I sign up with a UK address, at which point I'll go from £2.30 per month to £12.99,” the user said.
Google has not yet confirmed that it will revoke Premium subscriptions purchased via VPN. The terms of service do not explicitly state that it is not permitted to purchase and use a subscription via a VPN. However, the terms do state that 'the Paid Services, and certain content available within the Paid Services, may only be available in certain countries'. It also states that the user 'will not provide false, inaccurate or misleading information in an attempt to misrepresent the country in which they reside'.
Update, 10:18 a.m.: Additional information about the terms has been added.
