Embracer Group will focus more on AI for game development

Embracer Group will focus significantly more on AI for game development, but says that it will not replace game developers. The use of artificial intelligence must support developers, says the Swedish gaming giant.

In Embracer's recently published annual report, Tomas Hedman, head of privacy and AI management, says that the company does not want to lag behind with artificial intelligence. “Not only does AI enable our developers to do even more and become more efficient at certain tasks, it also makes programming more accessible to a broader group of developers. Access to the industry can become easier for people with disabilities, who, for example, cannot easily use a keyboard.”

The CEO further emphasizes that AI will not be used to replace developers. “We don't want people replaced by AI; we want to support them. In this way we want to utilize the potential of AI.”

Embracer has closed several studios in a short period of time and laid off 1,600 employees last year, while it has bought many game developers in recent years. Last year, the gaming giant lost a $2 billion partnership deal, necessitating a reorganization. The most recent closure was that of Pieces Interactive, which worked on the recently released survival horror game Alone in the Dark.
