Gammalsvenskby church bombed

Foreign. The German Lutheran church in Gammalsvenskby in Ukraine has been destroyed in a Russian drone attack, reports SVT Nyheter.

– It caught fire and was completely destroyed. Fortunately, no one was hurt, but it is an important landmark and an important place for the villagers, says Sofia Hoas, president of the association Swedish Villagers, to SVT.

Sofia Hoas says there was no military activity in the village and that the robotic drone was aimed directly at the church.

Gammalsvenskby, which was established in the 18th century, is located in the Kherson region of Ukraine . Of the village's roughly 2,500 inhabitants, there are only about 70 people left.

– These are people who mentally do not want to or for other reasons cannot move. Or who feel that they would rather die than move, says Sofia Hoas to SVT.

At least 11 people have died in attacks against Gammalsvenskby since the invasion in 2022, according to Svenskby residents.
