Amazon invests 10 billion euros in logistics and cloud in Germany

Amazon is to invest 10 billion euros in Germany. The money is intended to stimulate innovation and to expand the logistics network and cloud infrastructure in the country. Four thousand new jobs are also to be created.

The four thousand jobs will be created at three new warehouses in Germany, the company said. These are the warehouse in Erfurt, which opened in May of this year, the warehouse in Großenkneten, which opened in August 2023, and a warehouse in Horn-Bad Meinberg, which will open later this summer.

In addition, investments are being made in the cloud. The company says it plans to invest 8.8 billion euros in the cloud in Germany in 2026. The money is intended to build, maintain and operate the cloud infrastructure in the Frankfurt region.

The investment of 10 billion euros is in addition to the investment of 7.8 billion euros in the European Sovereign Cloud, which was announced last month. The European Sovereign Cloud will be a division that will operate independently of other regions and will play into data sovereignty. The first AWS Region of this European Sovereign Cloud will be launched at the end of 2025 and will be located in the German state of Brandenburg. The money will also go to German projects.
