The rapprochement between the countries takes place in connection with the Russian President Vladimir Putin visits North Korea for the first time in 20 years.
During his visit, Putin was received by Kim Jong-Un and celebrated with a grand ceremony in central Pyongyang.
At his meeting, Putin and Kim Jong-Un signed a new partnership agreement, promising to protect each other in the event of an attack. The agreement deepens economic and military ties between the countries and shows a united front against Washington.
Putin expressed his appreciation for North Korea's support for Russia's war in Ukraine.
The details of the agreement are not completely clear, but according to the BBC, an agreement on mutual defense guarantees is included. State-run Russian media reports that Putin emphasizes that the agreement means that the countries will help each other in case of attack.
The relationship between Russia and North Korea has strengthened since the invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
