Ukrainians are to start being registered in the population register

As a result of the announcement, the Tax Agency can start registering Ukrainians who have had a residence permit with temporary protection for at least two years and plan to continue living in Sweden.< /p>

Ukrainians who are entered in the national register are no longer covered by the Act on Reception of Asylum Seekers and Others (LMA) but are written out of the Migration Agency's reception system. They are instead covered by the social insurance system and receive the same rights and obligations as other people registered in the national register. This means, for example, that they can be covered by the establishment program and get help from the Employment Service.

The Migration Agency has so far assigned people with temporary protection who needed help with accommodation to the municipalities according to the LMA. Those who are now registered in the national register will receive a new municipal instruction according to the regulations for the settlement of new arrivals.

– No one should have to move from the municipality they are assigned to and live in today, but everyone will be given accommodation in the same municipality. Most people with temporary protection also live in accommodation that they arranged themselves and are not affected, says Sara Åhman, head of the Swedish Migration Agency's national operational department, in a statement.

Approximately 400 people who may be registered in the population register live today in one of the Migration Agency's facilities. In the case of population registration, they will not be able to stay there, but will then be assigned to a municipality for accommodation.

The Migration Agency is now preparing to be able to start assigning the people with temporary protection who are to be registered in the population register. The change in the settlement regulation that regulates this comes into force on June 17.

– We will start assigning the people who need help with housing as soon as the conditions for it are in place. When we receive a signal from the Tax Agency that a person is registered, the individual will then be written out of the reception system, says Sara Åhman.
