Inflation unchanged: “Not good”

Economy. The rate of inflation according to CPIF (consumer price index with fixed interest rate) was 2.3 percent in May – i.e. at exactly the same level as in April.

– This was not good. It was expected to be lower, although it is a lower figure than what the Riksbank had in its latest forecast, notes SVT's economic commentator Alexander Norén.

The inflation rate according to the CPI was at the same time 3.7 percent in May 2024, a decline from April when it was 3.9 percent. The monthly change from April to May was 0.2 percent according to the CPI.

Economists had expected the CPI to land at 3.5 percent, according to Bloomberg.

The monthly change was affected by a number of price increases within transport services. There, it was, among other things, car rental, rail travel and air travel that went up in price. Prices for hotel visits, package tours and food were also raised. The price increase was moderated by lower electricity and fuel prices, according to Statistics Sweden.
