Swimmer Lia Thomas (born Will) of Pennsylvania is competing against women after his “gender transition” in 2019 and has created controversy by outclassing his opponents.

He made history by winning the 2022 US Collegiate Swimming Championships on the women's side.

p>Now the sights were set on the Olympics in Paris in 2024 – but there it stops.

After being prevented from competing by the International Swimming Federation, which requires the “gender correction” to have taken place before the age of twelve for that a man should be allowed to compete against women, Thomas appealed the decision to the sports arbitration court Cas.

Now Cas has announced that it will not change the swimming federation's decision.

The international swimming federation welcomes the decision and called it “a major step forward in our efforts to protect women's sport”, writes The Guardian.
