A 19-year-old Albanian is singled out as the mastermind of the mess, and according to Albanian Politico, the Swedish government paid roughly 100 million tax crowns to Iraq in exchange for the 19-year-old not being sentenced to death, but instead getting three years in prison.

– We are firm opponents of the death penalty. Sweden always feels responsible for Swedish citizens and will of course investigate this matter more closely, says Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson to Aftonbladet.

One of those sentenced to death will be a 23-year-old man whose relatives are now complaining in various media.

Ulf Kristersson promises to try to prevent the punishment from being carried out for any of those involved.

The Foreign Ministry's press service writes in an email to Aftonbladet that the Swedish embassy in Baghdad is working intensively to try to get clarity on the information.

“If the information is correct, it is of course very serious. In that case, we will act urgently to ensure that the punishment is not carried out,” writes the Foreign Ministry's press service.

Foreign Minister Tobias Billström ( M) will now summon the Iraqi embassy to the Foreign Ministry, writes TT.

At the same time, many people on the internet question the Swedish government's great involvement in the matter, and some believe that it is natural that Swedish laws and penalties apply in Sweden , but not in, for example, Iraq, which is in the Arab world.
