Google has enabled video-out on Pixel 8 phones with an upgrade. The Pixel 8, 8 Pro and 8a have the feature on board, but users can only use it after the upgrade to view content from their phone on a large screen via a cable.
For now, it's about displaying the phone screen on a larger screen, but a limited form of a desktop mode is also likely possible. The feature is not coming to the Pixel 7 and older, because they do not have the necessary support for video out via USB-C.
The upgrade also brings AI model Gemini Nano to the Pixel 8 and 8a. Until now, it only ran on the Pixel 8 Pro. This is possible via the developer settings. This makes it possible, among other things, to make transcriptions of audio files in Recorder. That does not work in Dutch, but it does in English.
The camera software of several Pixels can now also automatically take a photo when someone has their eyes open and smiles. There are also smaller improvements. The upgrade, which Google is calling the June Feature Drop, will roll out Tuesday for Pixel 6 and later. The Pixel Watch models and Pixel Tablet are also getting upgrades.
