All parties above the barrier – SD decreases

Domestic. With 86 percent of the votes counted, the EU election appears to be a sleepy story, with a lower turnout than in 2019. SD backs off by 2 percentage points to 13.3 percent and all parties – including the Liberals – pass the hurdle and remain in the EU Parliament.

– We will have to think about why we are not growing but why we only keep our three mandates, says SD leader Jimmie Åkesson at the party's election vigil.

He thanked the members for their work during the election campaign.

The Liberals came a little over the four percent barrier with 4.3 percent.

The Green Party becomes the third largest party after the Social Democrats and The moderates. The Sweden Democrats end up in fourth place and the Left Party in fifth.

The voter turnout was 50.3 percent, according to preliminary figures from the Swedish Electoral Authority. The same figure was 55 percent in the 2019 EU election.
