Trouble in SVT's EU debate on Gaza

Media. In SVT's big debate before the EU elections, Charlie Weimers (SD) and Alice Teodorescu Måwe (KD) highlighted how proportionately Israel is acting in Gaza. Something that caused the left to get really upset with them.

The fact that there was criticism of Israel in the broadcast was something that made Alice Teodorescu Måwe (KD) to say out of anger.

– You should be ashamed! exclaimed the former Bulletin profile, among other things, during the debate.

SD and KD's uncompromising support for Israel in turn upset the left and, among other things, the Left Party's candidate Jonas Sjöstedt was sharply critical.

– There is no criticism of Israel's far-right government. They just say “Keep killing people”, said Sjöstedt, who pointed out that Israel has killed over 40,000 people in the Gaza Strip since October.

Even Alice Bah Kuhnke (MP) was critical of Teodorescu Måwe, who she believed deviated from how KD sounded in the past.

– I am so old that I remember what the Christian Democrats in the past said they stood for. To have so much disregard for innocent civilians, for children to be killed – it was like she thinks what's going on is okay. It felt absurd, she says.

Sjöstedt had to tell Teodorescu Måwe several times not to interrupt him when the Gaza war was being debated.

– Among the 40,000 you speak of are combatants, terrorists, because it is Hamas's strategy to use civilian shields for you and your ilk (!) to use it in your propaganda, she said.
