HP is said to be in negotiations to buy Humane, the company behind the AI Pin, for a billion dollars. These negotiations are said to have been ongoing since a week after the release of the start-up's first product in April.
For the time being, these are exploratory discussions, reports The New York Times. The newspaper spoke to 23 employees and former employees about the company for a story about what goes on behind the scenes at Humane. The start-up and HP have neither confirmed the discussions.
It has been clear for some time that Humane, a start-up of former Apple employees, wants to sell itself. Other companies are also said to be interested in the maker of the AI Pin. Approximately 10,000 copies of the pin have been sold so far.
Humane has also sent out an email warning customers to no longer use the included charging case, reports The Verge. That could pose a fire hazard. The magnetic battery booster can be used and the AI Pin can also be charged directly.
