Foreign. The Israel lobby is losing its control over American politics, laments Donald Trump – who himself is now receiving a donation of one billion kroner.

– Israel had the most powerful lobby in the country 15 years ago. Today, Israel does not have the support they need, Trump says in an interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News (scroll for video).

The Israel lobby, represented primarily by the organization Aipac, controls American politicians on both sides by financing their election campaigns and launching negative campaigns against the few politicians who oppose the situation.

Individual wealthy Jewish donors, meanwhile, play a large role alongside Aipac, accounting for a very large proportion of donations to political candidates. Trump's new outing comes, for example, after the news that radical Zionist casino billionaire Sheldon Adelson's widow Miriam is donating an incredible 100 billion dollars, i.e. one billion kroner, to his election campaign. The political issue that interests the Adelsons is Israel, and when Trump was last president, he reciprocated a donation from the couple, among other things, by moving the US embassy in Israel to Jerusalem.

Republicans defeated Aipac

There are signs that the lobby is on ice. One of the very few politicians in Congress to criticize America's unconditional support for Israel is Republican Thomas Massie – who bills himself as a “true conservative” and opposed to war and aid. Because of his erratic voting behavior during the ongoing war in Gaza, Aipac spent millions to smear him ahead of a May 21 primary in his home state of Kentucky. In election ads, he was portrayed as a pure Hamas supporter because he criticized the US' almost unconditional support for Israel.

“Israel, the holy land, is under attack by Iran, Hamas, Hezbollah and Congressman Tom Massie” , read one of the messages from Aipac.

Despite that, Massie managed to crush the opposition, which is described as a sensation. “Meet the man who defeated Aipac”, writes The Nation magazine about Massie, for example.

Had “rightfully” control of Congress
Donald Trump has repeatedly lamented that Israel does not have the same control over Congress as it used to, and it's a little unclear if he's serious or if it's if – as some choose to interpret it – a “cry for help”.

In an interview in 2021, Trump said that “Israel literally owned Congress” until 10-15 years ago.

– Israel had such power – and rightfully so – over Congress, and now they don't have it. It's actually unbelievable, he said.

The former president has also previously admitted that the only reason the US is at war in the Middle East at all is to “protect Israel”.

It was another sound in the barking ahead of the 2016 election. In December 2015, Donald Trump declared to a group of wealthy Jewish donors that he was not going to accept their money.

– You will never support me because I don't want your money , Trump said, among other things, in a speech before the Republicans' most influential Jewish interest organization.
