Eric Clapton spoke in the interview with Real Music Observer about the ongoing university protests against Israel war in Gaza.

The 79-year-old rock star criticized the US Senate hearings of university presidents regarding anti-Semitism.

– I was so enthusiastic about what was going on at Columbia University and elsewhere. The Senate hearings scared me. It was like the Nuremberg trials.

Clapton continues:

– The chairman of the Senate committee asked pointed questions to the principals and said: “I just want to hear yes or no. Don't talk about context. Yes or no , are you promoting anti-Semitism on your campus?” And I thought, what is this, the Spanish Inquisition? And that's it! It's AIPAC, it's the lobby. Israel decides. Israel rules the world.

Eric Clapton recently played a guitar painted in the colors of the Palestinian flag. Late last year he released a song called “Voice of a Child” with a video showing footage of the widespread destruction in Gaza.

Now Eric Clapton is being compared to Pink Floyd star Roger Waters, who has long been critical of Israel.

Clapton has previously been noticed for controversial political views. Already in the 1970s, he warned of the consequences of Third World immigration to Great Britain and praised the anti-immigration politician Enoch Powell.
