Somali Mohamedamin Ibrahim murdered his girlfriend Saga, 20, in an apartment in Örebro.
She was seven months pregnant at the time with a healthy boy, who also died in the stomach during the murder.
The prosecutor has previously stated that the murder was committed because he did not want to tell his family that he had a relationship with a “white” non-Somali. Saga had a Thai background.
– The suspect's family has not accepted that he was with a white girl, prosecutor Elisabeth Anderson told Expressen in connection with the prosecution.
Among other things, the mother confronted in January last year Ibrahim that her car, which he was using, had been seen parked at Saga's address.
This enraged the mother:
“Don't come to me. I am no longer your mother. I'm Islam and Somali,” she wrote in a message.
“Don't go home to someone white”
In his answer, Ibrahim denied the relationship:
“I'm also Islam or Somali and I don't go home to someone white.”
Örebro District Court has today sentenced the 22-year-old to life imprisonment for murder.
Mohamedamin Ibrahim has received a Swedish passport and therefore cannot be deported to Somalia under current legislation.
The murder was committed on 29 April 2023 in the woman's home in central Örebro. The Somali and the woman had a relationship and were expecting a child together. The same day, the 22-year-old was arrested on suspicion of the murder.
The district court has, after an extensive examination of a series of circumstantial evidence, found that it is beyond reasonable doubt that Mohamedamin Ibrahim killed Sara. According to the district court's assessment, the Somali had an honorable motive for carrying out the murder.
– The prosecutor has shown through robust evidence that the 22-year-old murdered his pregnant girlfriend and that the fetus in the stomach died as a result. The prosecutor has also shown that the murder was honor-related, which the district court considers to be an aggravating assessment in terms of the penalty,” says court chairman Lars-Gunnar Lundh in a statement.
The prosecutor has presented extensive evidence and many witnesses have been heard at the district court . The district court has, based on what has been presented, found that it is possible to exclude other alternative courses of events.
The district court has assessed that there are a number of aggravating circumstances in the case but no mitigating ones. The penalty has therefore been set at life imprisonment.
