NLZiet suffered from technical problems on Saturday, June 1, during the final of the UEFA Champions League. Viewers therefore missed the second half of the match between Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid. The streaming service now provides an explanation of how this could happen.
According to NLZiet, something went wrong with converting the broadcast images to a stream around 10 p.m., just before the start of the second half of the match. The streaming service says it does not yet know exactly what went wrong and is currently investigating the cause with the supplier of the images. The problems caused the player to freeze in the app. Because many viewers tried to restart the app at the same time, the servers became overloaded. According to NLZiet, this made the problems worse.
To prevent recurrence, NLZiet will enter into discussions with the supplier and the streaming service wants to ensure that a stream can no longer be lost, including by finding alternative backup solutions. . During peak times, such as the European Football Championship, NLZiet will also ensure that an 'excessive amount of extra servers' are active during matches.
