The PlayStation VR2 headset will be available to connect to a PC starting August 7 to access SteamVR games. Sony will make the required adapter available starting August 7. Players will be able to get started with games such as Half-Life: Alyx and Fallout 4 VR starting that day.
The PS VR2 adapter will be available starting August 7 for $60. Players will need a DisplayPort cable that is compatible with DisplayPort 1.4. Sony also says that a Steam account is required. To get started with the PlayStation VR2 headset on PC, a build that meets the minimum requirements is required.
To use the PlayStation VR2 glasses on a PC, a system with at least an Intel Core i5-7600 or AMD Ryzen 3 3100 processor with Zen 2 architecture or newer is required. The video card must be an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 or newer with Turing architecture or newer. AMD GPUs include at least a Radeon RX 5500 XT or an RX 6500XT. In addition, at least 8GB of RAM is required and the system must have at least Bluetooth 4.0.
Many important features, such as HDR, headset feedback, eye tracking, adaptive triggers and haptic feedback, are not available on PC. Sony's Tempest 3D Audio technology is also not present on PC. Instead, SteamVR's audio technology is used. There is still a rumble in the controllers and the VR glasses continue to display 4k images (2000×2040 pixels per eye). The field of view of 110 degrees also remains the same.
With the adapter and a DisplayPort cable, the PlayStation VR2 glasses can be connected to a PC. Users need to download the PlayStation VR2 app and SteamVR app to adjust the settings for the PS VR2 on PC. It is possible, among other things, to set the playing area, start a game and buy games. The adapter is available from 'select retailers' and via PlayStation Direct.
