What is UC really?
UC (The Information Center ) is a credit information company that helps creditors (banks and other lenders) make the right decision before loans or credits are granted.
Before a credit provider can give a loan or credit, they must, according to Swedish law, do a credit assessment. They must determine whether the borrower has the ability to repay. They then make a credit report with UC (or with other credit reporting companies).
UC's service is thus to compile as much financial facts about a person or a company as possible – so that the credit company can make correct decisions regarding the credit. UC is not the only credit reporting company, among others there is Dun & Bradstreet (formerly Bisnode) and Creditsafe. However, UC is by far the largest, so large that the words “credit report” and “UC” perceived by many as synonyms.
UC is, as I said, Sweden's largest company in credit reporting. When a credit report is taken via UC, they will compile information from a number of different sources and then determine your UC-Score.
For the banks, lenders and credit companies, it is easy to look at this score and let it largely form the basis for whether the loan should be granted or not. With a low UC-Score, you therefore have a low credit rating.
UC-Score only for credit information at UC
Only UC uses UC-Score. Other credit reporting companies have other rating scales.
Should a loan application be submitted to a bank or lender that takes credit information from Credsafe, Bisnode or another credit information company, your UC-Score will not be presented to that particular credit company.
So there is some small differences between what the different credit reporting companies present in their compilations of your credit rating. Although most things are the same.
UC-Score grades creditworthiness on a scale that ranges between 1 and 999, where 1 is the worst and 999 the best. However, reaching the extremes of the scale is extremely difficult.

Exactly all the parameters behind the score are not specified by UC. But, among other things, it is based on the person's salary level, if there are other loans and any payment notices. It is individual information that is then matched against statistics on the population in Sweden. Both age, where you live and marital status can thus affect the score.
If you improve your UC-Score, your general creditworthiness improves, which in turn can affect the credit rating of other companies as well who deals with credit information.
It is certainly impossible to know all the parameters, but there are certain points you can review yourself to improve your UC-Score and credit rating.
Affects your ability to borrow
Your UC-Score affects whether you can get a loan, how much you can borrow and your interest.
If the loan is granted or not
It is the information on the credit report that is primarily the basis for whether the loan is granted or not. A person with a low UC-Score will have much more difficulty getting a loan than a person with a high score.
How much you can borrow
With a low credit rating, the bank considers that the risk increases that you will not be able repay according to the loan agreement. Thus, they will also be willing to lend smaller amounts.
What interest rate you get
A low credit rating (low UC-Score) also means that you will receive a significantly higher interest rate than otherwise. Here, too, it is the bank's risk-taking that is decisive. They take a greater risk in lending money to a person with a poor credit rating. They compensate for this by lending lower amounts – at a higher interest rate.

Follow loans, credits and payment notices
One factor that affects your credit rating is how many and how big other loans you have. Here you can also see if you have a payment reminder and when they expire.
Five questions about UC-Score
🔷 Is UC-Score same thing as credit score?
Yes, if credit information is taken from UC, the credit rating is summarized in UC-Score. It is the same in this case. However, other credit reporting companies can also compile credit ratings – which then have other names.
🔷 Why is a good credit rating important?
Your credit rating affects whether you can get loans and credits. If you are approved, the grade also determines your interest rate and the size of the loan/credit. The worse the rating, the more restrictive the lender will be.
🔷 My UC-Score has improved – How do I profit from it?
If you have loans, you should always negotiate these once a year. You thereby check whether you can get a better interest rate with the current, or another, lender. If you have received a significantly improved UC-Score, you should also negotiate the loans, then you can probably get a better interest rate.
🔷 Does a bad UC-Score also affect the credit rating at, for example, Bisnode or Creditsafe?
No, there is no direct connection between the various companies that deal with credit reporting. The information that one company has is not shared with the others.
On the other hand, they obtain information to a large extent from the same public registers such as the Swedish Tax Agency, Kronofogden and Bolagsverket. You can therefore have a slightly different high credit rating with the various credit reporting companies, but hardly any extreme differences.
Many people still use/say Bisnode, however they are now called Dun & Bradstreet.
🔷 How do I check my UC-Score?
The easiest way is via Kreditkollen at UC. A service that costs SEK 49 per month. As it has no notice period, it can therefore be used for a week and then terminated if you no longer wish to receive the information. However, information changes over time, Kreditkollen is a very good tool to keep track of your creditworthiness.
