Spotify still wants to refund some Car Thing users

Spotify is considering refunding Car Thing customers. The company says this to various media, although the company remains vague about who is eligible for this. It probably only concerns American users.

Spotify tells Ars Technica and TechCrunch, among others, that it has established a return policy for buyers of Car Things. The company now also refers customers in an email to a general customer service page where customers can contact the company. In the response, Spotify says that customers must at least be able to prove that they have purchased a Car Thing device, but the company is further vague about who exactly will refund the money. This probably only concerns American customers, because Car Thing was only sold in the US through official channels.

Car Thing was an accessory that Spotify released in 2021, but the hardware unit never became very successful. In 2022, Spotify stopped producing the device, but continued to sell it. However, earlier this month Spotify announced that the devices will no longer work at all from December 9. The company will then stop providing support. American users therefore filed a lawsuit, because they felt they had paid for an unusable device.
