Sony will release Astro's Playroom successor Astro Bot for PS5 in September

Sony will release a full-fledged Astro Bot game for the PlayStation 5 in September. It will be made by Team Asobi, which also made Astro's Playroom, the tech demo that PS5 users receive for free with the console. Astro Bot resembles an expanded version of that game.

Team Asobi and Sony say that players can explore six different worlds and eighty levels in the game. Just like Astro's Playroom, they take place in different environments. A trailer shows how the robot Astro skims past volcanoes and moves through an ice world in a snowball.

Players also get more options to fight enemies, such as with boxing gloves or a paint gun. According to Team Asobi, there are fifteen new abilities. There are also new enemies in the game. That's seventy. The trailer also shows how Astro can bring along a number of companions, who, according to Sony, also come from 'the rest of the PlayStation universe'. For example, a dog can be seen, but also Kratos from God of War.

According to Sony, the game should make optimal use of the possibilities of the DualSense controller. Astro's Playroom was also intended for that; that game was specifically a demo of the capabilities of the PS5 controller's haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. The game will be released on September 6, but the price is not yet known.
