Framework introduces a new version of its Framework Laptop 13. It features the latest Core Ultra processors from Intel, which are based on the Meteor Lake architecture. The Laptop 13 can soon also be equipped with an optional 120Hz screen.
Framework confirms the arrival of its new Laptop 13 model with Core Ultra processor in a blog post. This variant has a processor with up to six P-cores and eight E-cores, for a total of twenty threads. The new laptop supports a maximum of 96GB DDR5 memory, the manufacturer reports. The current Framework Laptop 13 with Intel 13th Gen CPU comes with up to 64GB of DDR4 memory.
The new model will be delivered from August and will then have a recommended retail price of 1029 euros. This concerns a DIY model without RAM or SSD. A ready-made version with 8GB memory and 256GB SSD costs 1249 euros. The motherboards with Intel Core Ultra processors will also be available separately for users who want to upgrade their existing laptop.
The company reports that this new Intel variant can also be supplied with an optional 13.5″ screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 2880×1920 pixels. The previous version only came with a 60Hz screen with a resolution of 2256×1504 pixels The new screen has a brightness of 500cd/m² and has a matte surface against reflections. This new screen can also be supplied with the AMD version of the Laptop 13; that variant also has a larger 61Wh battery, instead of 52Wh in the basic model. The screen will also be available separately for 299 euros, so that users can upgrade their previously purchased Framework laptop.
Framework further introduces a new Gen 2 webcam module. This is equipped with a 9.2-megapixel sensor, although the manufacturer has chosen not to use the full resolution. Instead, pixel binning is used, where four pixels are combined into a single pixel. According to Framework, this produces 1080p video images, but with better performance in low light. The new webcam module is standard in the Laptop 13 with Intel Core Ultra CPU, can also be supplied with the AMD version of the device and is also available separately for 45 euros.
Finally, the expansion card with SD card reader can now be pre-ordered and the USB-C expansion card now also comes in four new colors: orange, red, purple and green. Framework has also reduced the recommended retail price of the AMD entry-level model from 979 to 929 euros. That is for a DIY variant without included DDR5 memory and without SSD.
Correction, Thursday: The article initially stated that the new 120Hz screen has a resolution of 2280×1920 pixels has. That had to be 2880×1920 pixels. This has been corrected.
