The world's largest dating apps, Tinder and Bumble, have been experiencing a decline in the number of monthly users for some time, writes the Financial Times business newspaper. Young women in particular seem to be dropping out.
At Tinder, the decline started in 2021 and Bumble followed in 2023, reports the Financial Times. Tinder fell below 60 million monthly users for the first time last quarter; Bumble has approximately 20 million monthly users. Hinge and Grindr are not affected by the same decline.
According to the business newspaper, studies show that young women in particular are dropping out. A survey from Bumble reported that 70 percent of women have or have had “dating app burnout.” The companies behind the services, Match Group and Bumble, are trying to get young female users back on their platforms with new features. Research agency Mintel calculated that last year in the United Kingdom, 47 percent of men between the ages of 18 and 34 used a dating app, compared to 25 percent of women.
Due to the decline in women, heterosexual men have less use of the platform. chance of a match and the women who are there have more matches. On balance, this reduces the user experience.
