Current head of the High Tech Crime Police Team will become director of NCSC in September

The current head of the High Tech Crime Team of the Dutch police, Matthijs van Amelsfort, will become the director of the National Cyber ​​Security Center from September 1. The NCSC is a government body that works on digital security in the Netherlands.

Van Amelsfort previously worked on digital investigation at various agencies, including the Police Region Utrecht, the National Police Services National Investigation Unit In-depth specialisms & Innovation and the Criminal Investigation Collaboration Team in Curaçao. According to the Dutch government, he also worked at various departments of the National Criminal Investigation Service on combating cybercrime.

He says about his future work: “As head of the High Tech Crime Team of the police, I have the seen the far-reaching consequences of a cyber attack on an organization and society. The current geopolitical situation and the constant growth of cybercrime make the importance of good digital resilience in the Netherlands more important than ever.”

The NCSC works according to its own principles. to the digital security of the Netherlands and therefore extinguishes 'digital fires'. These could, for example, be virus threats to the energy sector or security holes in government systems. The government body offers advice and support in these cases, among other things. From the end of 2025, the NCSC, the Computer Security Incident Response Team for digital service providers and the Digital Trust Center will work more closely together.
