An investigator must review several parts of the law on special control of certain foreigners (LSU). Among other things, the investigator must propose an extension of the time limits for detention and increased opportunities to use coercive measures.
– Normally, a conviction is required to obtain a deportation, but to protect our safety, the state must in the most serious cases, be able to have tools to send out dangerous foreign citizens, says Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer (M) according to SVT.
The investigator must also consider how foreigners who participate in or have connections with criminal networks can be deported – even without having been convicted of a crime.
“This presupposes a system that requires predictability and proportionality. The investigator must therefore carefully consider how this circle of foreigners should be delimited and defined. The purpose is that the regulation should meet the individuals who pose a serious threat to society,” the government writes in a press release.
– It is of the highest priority to restore security in the country. Sweden should not be a safe haven for dangerous people and this proposal is absolutely crucial to ensure that, among other things, serious gang criminals, even without having been convicted of a crime, can actually be deported from the country, says Richard Jomshof (SD), chairman of the justice committee.
The investigation directive is part of the Tidö Agreement and is based on an agreement between the Sweden Democrats, the Moderates, the Christian Democrats and the Liberals.
The assignment must be reported by 21 November 2025 at the latest.
