Square Enix has shared a short teaser video of the upcoming HD-2D remake of Dragon Quest III. The publisher announced the remake in 2021, but has not provided any updates on the progress of the game for a long time.
In the context of Dragon Quest Day, Square Enix posted a teaser video on the social medium on May 27 X with the text 'The legend of Erdrick is getting closer'. The end of the video shows that the remake will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, Nintendo Switch, Steam and Windows. The release date has not yet been announced.
The remake of Dragon Quest III will be made in the HD-2D style that is also used for RPGs such as Octopath Traveler. Square Enix has sold more than 82 million Dragon Quest games worldwide since the first game was released in 1986. The last title in the line is Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. The game was first released in Japan in 2017 for the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation 4. In 2018, the game was also released in the West for the PlayStation 4 and Steam.
