BIPT: mobile subscription prices in Belgium have fallen significantly in recent years

Prices for mobile subscriptions with at least 5GB of data have fallen sharply in Belgium since 2019, according to research by BIPT. The cheapest mobile subscription with 10GB data currently costs 15 euros, while five years ago this was 27 euros.

According to the Belgian Institute for Postal Services and Telecommunications, the decrease is greatest for consumers with a 'medium data need'. , which means they use at least 10GB of mobile data. For consumers with a 'limited need for mobile data', the price of subscriptions remained stable. This concerns subscriptions with 1, 2 or 5GB data.

In addition, BIPT writes that the price differences between cheaper and more expensive brands are decreasing, which, according to the regulator, indicates increasing competition. However, according to BIPT, there is still room for improvement. For example, a study last year showed that Belgians spend a relatively large amount of money on mobile and fixed internet compared to consumers from neighboring countries.
