Lena Andersson wrote in last May, an attention-grabbing column in Svenska Dagbladet stated that it is not necessary for children of low-income parents to go hungry.
“Lack of basic knowledge about cooking is something different from not being able to afford food”, Andersson wrote, among other things.
The text aroused great anger within the left, and Högsbo library participated in the campaign against Lena Andersson by weeding out and giving away her books.
In a post on Instagram, the library posted a photo showing four books by Lena Andersson, and wrote:
“Last week before salary! We have filled the cabinet in the entrance hall with selected books. Take one home, read it and leave further.”
Unit manager Grethe Österberg has previously stated that the thinning would be carried out in any case and that the whole thing “of course” was not a political marking.
However, JO believes that the library's post did not meet the requirements for objectivity and impartiality according to the form of government, and that it could be interpreted as the library thinning out Lena Andersson's books because of her opinions in the column.
According to Annika Cross, director of the libraries in the southwest and at Hisingen in Gothenburg, the decision was expected.
– We seriously consider that it may be a breach of trust that arose with the publication, she tells Magasin K.
