Google rolls out Shazam and SoundHound-like feature for YouTube on Android

Users of YouTube and YouTube Music on Android can identify songs by humming, singing, whistling or playing a recording with the latest update. The function is comparable to Shazam and SoundHound.

The function can be used via the magnifying glass in the YouTube and YouTube Music apps on Android devices. Next to the microphone icon on the right side of the search bar is a new icon to launch the Shazam-like feature. By playing, singing, whistling or humming a song, the user lets the app search for a match.

The tech company started testing the function for YouTube last year to show songs recognize by humming. The feature has been available to Android users since the last update. It is not yet known when the Shazam-like feature will be released for YouTube and YouTube Music users on iOS. In 2020, Google brought a similar feature to Google Assistant.
