The incident occurred at the border crossing with Egypt in Rafah, according to Haaretz.
In addition to the killing of one Egyptian soldier, additional soldiers were reportedly injured, according to the Israeli military IDF.
According to Haaretz, the IDF has not yet determined which of the sides opened fire, but according to testimony from soldiers, the assessment is that an Egyptian soldier fired first at the Israelis.
“The incident is being investigated and a dialogue is being held with the Egyptian side,” the IDF states.
