IFixit and Samsung end collaboration for spare parts

IFixit and Samsung will soon no longer cooperate on the sale of official spare parts and the development of repair manuals for Samsung smartphones. According to iFixit, Samsung appears to be 'not interested' in further collaboration.

The contract between the two companies expires on June 17. In an interview with The Verge, iFixit CEO Kyle Wiens explains that the collaboration between the two companies was not going well anyway. For example, the tech giant allegedly required a limit of seven parts per customer per three months, which hindered the “volume required for significant repair options.” Wiens also says that the spare parts that Samsung supplied were far too expensive. The medium refers to battery kits, which have a screen glued to them as standard. Samsung did not respond to questions from Tweakers before the publication of this article.

The repair platform says it continues to sell spare parts from third parties. The company also emphasizes that Samsung appears to be complying with repair legislation by publishing manuals itself. So far, the South Korean company has partnered with iFixit to develop these guides.
