According to the statistics, 95 percent of public transport is driven by bus on renewable fuels or electricity. Regional and commuter train traffic is almost entirely powered by electricity, and tram and subway traffic runs only on electricity.
– The climate work of the regional public transport authorities shows that it is possible to switch to fossil-free and make large reductions in climate emissions, says Johan Wadman, CEO of Swedish Public Transport, in a dispatch.
By 2030, the transport sector's emissions must be reduced by 70 percent compared to 2010. Public transport already met its part of the target several years ago.
– Since public transport has such low emissions, it is now necessary to increase public transport's market share in order to reduce the transport sector's emissions of greenhouse gases, says Johan Wadman.
