Bloomberg: ASML and TSMC can disable EUV machines remotely

ASML can remotely disable TSMC's chip machines, sources tell Bloomberg. This concerns the EUV machines, which can be switched off in the event of an invasion of Taiwan by China.

Bloomberg writes, based on anonymous sources, that ASML and TSMC can work together to install machines at the Taiwanese manufacturer to be able to shut down remotely. There are no details on how that works, but the sources say the option is there.

This not only concerns the DuV machines, but also the advanced EUV machines. According to Bloomberg's sources, US policymakers have privately expressed their concerns to the Netherlands and Taiwan. They are concerned about what could happen if China ever invades Taiwan and takes over TSMC's chip production. The Netherlands has previously withdrawn export licenses for Chinese deliveries. Although this has never been confirmed, it seems to have happened partly under American pressure.
