– This garbage is pure fabrication and fuels lies that for have long been dismissed, a spokesman for Trump's presidential campaign told AFP.

The film, which is titled “The Apprentice,” has garnered much attention and received nearly a ten-minute standing ovation at its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.

The film depicts Donald Trump's time in New York during the 1970s and 80s. The young Trump is initially portrayed as likable and naive, but under the influence of his mentor Roy Cohn, he becomes increasingly vicious in his quest for power and success.

The film contains controversial scenes, including one in which Trump rapes his first wife Ivana.

Ali Abbasi himself says in an interview with Vanity Fair magazine that the goal of the film was to make a “punk version of a historical film and not be so detailed when it comes to what is right or error”.
