Javier Milei was in Madrid on Sunday to participate in a meeting with Spanish Vox and immigration-critical European right-wing figures such as France's Marine le Pen, Hungary's Viktor Orbán and Italy's Giorgia Meloni.
In his speech, Milei described Spanish Prime Minister Perdro Sánchez's wife as “corrupt”. This has led to strong reactions from Spain, which is now withdrawing its ambassador “indefinitely”.
– It is unacceptable that a sitting president visiting Spain insults Spain and the Spanish Prime Minister – a fact that breaks against all diplomatic etiquette and the most elementary rules of coexistence between countries, says Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares.
Albares points out that Milei has damaged relations between Spain and Argentina more than anyone else in modern times.
