The ATM builds its own cash depots

Economics. In order not to be dependent on access to value-added services that handle cash, Bankomat AB is now building its own hub of cash depots around Sweden.

The depots will be located in Arlandastad outside Stockholm as well as in Lund, Borlänge, Borås, Härnösand and Luleå.

In the Råbyholm area of ​​Lund, the company will build a 570 square meter premises in 2024 and start cash handling in 2025.

– The ATM will continue to ensure that people can withdraw and deposit cash. But many other companies that offer cash services are reducing or ceasing their operations, as a natural consequence of the decline in demand for cash. What is now required is for the state to take financial responsibility for cash handling, says Stefan Wikman, head of cash management for Bankomat AB, in a press release.

The government has talked about fixing the banks' reduction in cash, which is having a wide impact in business and caused many stores to stop accepting cash. So far, however, the issue has been buried in various investigations.
