The source code for the Windows version of music player Winamp will be available on September 24. This allows “the entire community to participate in the development of Winamp,” the platform said on Thursday.
“Although our current focus is on developing new products, we have not forgotten our loyal fans. This decision will giving thousands of Windows users access to their favorite music player, thanks to the experience and creativity of thousands of passionate developers,” Winamp wrote in an Instagram post. Interested parties can request the source code via a form on the music player's official site.
Winamp has been around since 1997 and appears to still be popular. The developer claims that there are still more than 80 million active users worldwide. Last year a new version of Winamp was released for Windows, Mac, iOS and Android.
