Google made the preview build of Android TV 14 available to developers on Thursday. This includes a number of new features that previous versions of Android TV did not have, including new power modes and picture-in-picture support.
Google shows in a video what features are available in Android TV 14, which coming out later this year. Users can then choose between three energy modes: Low, Optimized and Increased. Low turns off the internet connection when the TV is not in use. The connection is only enabled when downloading important updates. Optimized is a balanced mode where the user can turn on the TV with Google Cast via the WiFi connection and devices with Google Assistant. With Increased, 'additional functions' are allowed even when the TV is not on.
In addition, Android TV 14 supports picture-in-picture for 'suitable Android TV 14 models'. It's not clear if the feature will eventually come to more devices that support Android TV 14. Furthermore, the new version of Android TV will receive several performance improvements and accessibility features such as color correction.
