Payment provider Mollie increases rates after rollout of new iDEAL

Payment provider Mollie will increase its transaction rates by roughly 10 percent from July 1. From that date, companies can switch to the 'new iDEAL', which, according to Mollie, involves higher costs.

The company informs customers in an email that the rates for users in the Netherlands and Belgium increase from 29 euro cents to 32 euro cents per transaction after the introduction of what it calls iDEAL 2.0. Outside the countries listed, the company increases the standard rate to 42 euro cents per transaction. Nothing will change for customers with an adjusted rate. The Dutch company, which facilitates the receipt of online payments for companies, does not go into detail about why the updated iDEAL causes higher costs.

The updated version of iDEAL is being rolled out in phases. The innovations will soon allow users to initiate a payment via a general QR code, among other things, without having to first select a bank. Furthermore, Currence, the company behind the payment system, recently released user profiles that should allow customers to make a purchase 'faster and more securely'.
