Domestic. The number of applications for basic officer training has been record high in 2024, according to the Armed Forces.

A little over 1,700 have applied for the training and of these 900 have so far fulfilled admission requirements. All of these have been offered a training place.
– With a deteriorating global situation, the Armed Forces are doing their utmost to increase defense capabilities, both with the right personnel volumes and with the right skills. It is therefore very gratifying that the number of applications has increased and that more are being accepted for officer training, says Major General Michael Cherinet, the Swedish Armed Forces' head of training, in a statement.
The applications in the second admission round are still being processed. Therefore, it is too early to say exactly how many of those who applied will start the training. Based on previous statistics, however, the Swedish Armed Forces estimate that approximately 650 of those admitted will begin training, of which up to 100 will be reserve officers. The number admitted is thus expected to increase by 24 percent compared to 2023.
