Seventeen European consumer associations, including the Consumers' Association in the Netherlands, have filed complaints against the Chinese online store Temu. The store would, among other things, use prohibited practices and dark patterns in the interface.
The consumer organizations point out, among other things, that Temu makes it difficult to close an account, which according to the European rules of the Digital Services Act are not allowed. According to the Consumers' Association, the shop also misleads customers by offering more expensive alternatives after they have made a choice. Furthermore, there is too little information available about products, sellers and the reason why consumers do or do not see certain products.
Temu has been in the interest of consumer organizations for some time. In Germany, consumer organization vzbv accused Temu of misleading customers with reviews and discounts, while the Italian Altroconsumo found no or hardly any of the mentioned ingredients in the product in nine of thirteen purchased cosmetic products. Temu says in a response that it takes the complaints seriously and is working on better information and service.
