The new law on preventive stay bans can prohibit staying within a defined area.

The 24-year-old in question was given a preventive notice residence ban four weeks ago. Since then, he has been caught and reported a total of four times for being in the restricted area.

The fourth time he was arrested by police and then arrested by prosecutors. Over the past weekend, he was detained by the Gothenburg district court because there is a risk that he will continue his criminal activities.

– This shows that society takes serious violations of the stay ban and that there will be a clear consequence, says Max Olsson, local police area manager in Gothenburg city, on the police's website.

– I think this may be the first time the new legislation is tested in practice and I think it is an important signal that the entire legal chain is offensive and uses the tools we have received, he continues.

Right now there are three people who have a stay ban decision within the local police area of Gothenburg city. The decision has been announced because the people have seriously damaged the security of the public.

– These are people who, among other things, have committed violent crimes and engaged in open drug dealing. It creates great insecurity for those who live and stay in central Gothenburg. Through stay bans, we limit the opportunity for these people to continue to negatively affect the area, says Max Olsson.

More applications for stay bans will be submitted for examination to the Public Prosecutor's Office, according to the police. Among other things, it concerns people who have involved young people in crime and have been involved in drug handling in Majorna in Gothenburg.
