Party leader Magdalena Andersson and Heléne Fritzon, the Social Democrats' top name for the EU elections, held a press conference on Thursday on the occasion of the “Cold facts” television program about an alleged “troll factory” at the Sweden Democrats.

They presented a proposal that amounts to to ban anonymous social media accounts across the EU.

– We want to use the EU to get rid of fake social media accounts. All accounts must require identification and be linked to a person, Magdalena Andersson said according to TV4 Nyheterna.

Heléne Fritzon drew parallels to Putin and said that the SD's way of working “brings to mind Russia”.

– We know that Russia uses such accounts to spread disinformation, and now we have black and white that SD uses anonymous accounts. With their fake accounts, they want to divide and influence the upcoming election. This misleading information deceives the Swedish people. It is cowardly, undignified and dangerous, said Heléne Fritzon.
