In the latest Canary version of Edge browser, Microsoft is testing, among other things, blocking the settings when Windows 11 is not activated. Because the function is still being tested, it is not clear whether and when it will be applied.
Editor Abhishek Mishra of Windows Latest tested the function, among other things, by enabling the 'msEdgeLockSettingsInNonActivatedOS' feature. Then Mishra could no longer access certain institutions. At the top of the settings page it is written that 'Windows 11 is not activated' and access to certain settings is limited. The Windows Latest editor looked further and when opening the 'When Edge starts' tab showed the same message.
Users who use Windows 11 without an activation code are already informed about this via the general settings and the desktop. Mishra wonders how effective it is to block features in Edge as long as Windows 11 is not activated. He points out that users can also install other browsers.
